Angolan national arrested for alleged possession of cannabis

A 39-year-old Angolan male national was on Thursday night arrested at a police mobile roadblock outside Outjo for allegedly possession and/or dealing in drugs.

Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha in an interview with Nampa on Friday said the suspect was travelling in branded taxi from Otjiwarongo to Outjo at the time of his arrest.

Mbeha said the taxi at a mobile police roadblock that was mounted some four kilometres southwest of Outjo was stopped and searched randomly at about 21h00 on Thursday night.

We then found stashed 17 parcels of cannabis in the vehicle weighting 7 870 grams with an estimate street value of N.dollars 78 000, and the suspect was arrested, said Mbeha.

His alleged drugs were also confiscated, Mbeha added.

The suspect will appear in the Outjo Magistrate's Court on Monday on a charge of possession or dealing in cannabis.
