AR retains status quo on interim activist council

The Affirmative Repositioning (AR) Movement has resolved to keep its Interim Operational Mass and National Activists Council intact until the movement’s next national elective assembly.

The party has also resolved that the Interim Regional Activist Councils set up AR regional structures using the bottom-up approach as guided by the constitution, starting from the communities which are the basic entry point of the movement.

This was announced in a media statement issued on Sunday after the AR’s national assembly held in Walvis Bay over the weekend.

According to AR Acting Spokesperson, George Kambala, the establishment of the structures such as Community Activists Council or District Activists Council and the convening of assemblies are not the same, although related.

“The assemblies follow the establishment of the structures. Assemblies are a constitutional mechanism through which permanent decisions and leadership are established and there can be no assembly without a structure. It is therefore submitted to the assembly that structures must first be established before any assembly is conducted,” he noted.

The national assembly was attended by activists from 12 regions across the country, who adopted the inaugural AR constitution with the aim of providing a new life and path for the movement and its activities.

“Due to the obvious challenges of formalisation and other challenges common at stages such as these, however, it is understood that the adoption of the constitution does not mean that everything becomes practical and operational. There is thus a need to work for and to ensure that all aspects of the constitution are brought to life and it is for this reason that a post-reorganisation, institutionalisation and formalisation (RIF) assembly programme of action tabled and adopted to ensure that the constitution is fully operationalised,” Kambala said.
