The Namibia Revenue Agency on Thursday announced that the Ariamsvlei Border Post will be temporarily closed for disinfection purposes after COVID-19 cases were reported at the border.

In a notice seen by Nampa on Thursday, the agency said the border will be closed from 13h00 on Thursday until Friday at 14h00.

“Traders, importers and exporters are thus advised to kindly use alternative routes for the interim period,” added the notice.

The closing of the Ariamsvlei border means traders, importers and exporters can only use the Noordoewer Border Post.

Last March when President Hage Geingob declared a state of emergency which introduced measures such as the closure of all borders, suspension of gatherings and economic-related resolutions on account of COVID-19, only two of the seven borders in the ||Kharas Region remained open, namely the Ariamsvlei and Noordoewer border posts.

The two border posts remain operational for the delivery of essential goods and services from South Africa and for all Namibians returning home.

Namibia receives the vast majority of its imports from its neighbour, South Africa.
