Armed robbers break into Otjiwarongo Markham

Three armed robbers allegedly broke into Markham at Otjiwarongo and stole a variety of clothes in the early hours of Tuesday morning.

Namibian Police Force's Otjozondjupa Regional Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Naukalemo Andreas told Nampa at the crime scene on Tuesday that three armed robbers were seen walking out of the shop with clothes at about 01h00 on Tuesday.

The police officer said the three suspects used bricks to smash the main glass-door to the shop and gained entrance to it.

She said the alarm went off, but since it (alarm) reports to the headquarter offices in South Africa, who then calls the employees in Namibia or the police, it usually takes time for the security services to arrive at the shop.

However, Andreas said a security guard at another shop in the same complex where Markham is operating allegedly saw the three young men at the shop who were armed with a pistol.

The guard allegedly tried to get nearer the shop to determine what they were doing there after the alarm rang, but one of the robbers pointed him a gun in the face and he ran away to take cover.

We still don't know the exact loss suffered by the shop or what was stolen specifically, as the workers of the company are still counting the stock, she said.

Police investigations continue.
