Aroab resident gets life for girlfriend’s murder

A resident of Aroab who was in November last year (2019) found guilty of killing his 19-year-old girlfriend and mother of his child by stabbing her multiple times in the chest with a knife after she refused to spend a night with him, was on Friday sent to jail for life.

Rodney Ricardo Rooi was sentenced to life imprisonment on a charge of murder reads with the Domestic Violence Act 2003 in connection with the circumstances that led to the brutal stabbing and death of Brigitta Smith on the night of between 25 and 26 February 2017 at the village of Aroab in the //Karas Region.

In addition, the 30-year-old Rooi was again sentenced to six months on the second charge of attempting to defeat the course of justice when he hid the knife he used in the commission of the offence that fateful night.

High Court Judge Alfred Siboleka handed down the punishment on Friday morning.
