Atlantis FC Takes Top Honours in 5-a-Side Tourney

Well, they might be a bit long in the tooth but ageing coastal outfit Atlantis Football Club squad members appeared to have lost none of their nostalgia on the football field.

The seasiders put up an impressive performance to sweep honours during the popular annual 5-A side tourney in the northern town of Otavi a fortnight ago. The Walvis-Bay outfit was deservedly crowned overall champions after a marathon tourney where no quarter was asked or given.

The Koko Muatunga inspired Atlantis swept all their opponents aside to claim victory in the coveted Otavi Trophy in brilliant style and were conquerors of hosts Otavi to claim their fourth title following wins in 2009, 2011, 2012 and 2014.

The ageing footballers played as a unit accompanied by great team spirit that saw each and every player in the star studded squad working hard for each other while individual skill made the men from the Atlantic Ocean proved to be tricky customers to deal to deal with.

Players like Steven Damaseb, Koko Muatunga, Baracks Danster, Chicken Kasaona and Sandro de Gouveia, were in a class of their own and showed their much younger opponents the finest tricks of football not seen in that neck of the woods in a very long time.

With some of the most and highly talented individual players in their armoury, Atlantis displayed a unique style and unrivalled passion for the beautiful game They proved that they will always be a threat to their opponents.
