Auditor General has given the Erongo Regional Council an adverse audit opinion

Auditor General (AG) Junias Kandjeke has given the Erongo Regional Council an adverse audit opinion for the financial year that ended 31 March 2018.

An adverse audit opinion is a professional opinion made by an auditor indicating that a given organisation's financial statements are misrepresented, misstated and/or do not accurately reflect its financial soundness.

This revelation is captured in the council's audit report for the financial year ended 31 March 2018, which was submitted to the National Assembly by Finance Minister, Calle Schlettwein, on Tuesday.

The AG premised his opinion on six key financial discrepancies that were uncovered when the audit was conducted.

Kandjeke amongst others found that the council does not have an acceptable reporting framework in place and could not provide a commitment register and source documents pertaining to delegated functions amounting to N.dollars 18 422 121.
