August 26 Manufacturing and NAFAU sign recognition and procedural agreement

August 26 Manufacturing and the Namibia Food and Allied Workers Union (NAFAU) signed a recognition and procedural agreement on Thursday.

Speaking during the signing ceremony, NAFAU national education coordinator Lister Tawana highlighted that the agreement will provide direction in employee meetings and organisational problems that employees may encounter including wage agreements, and urged Union members to acquaint themselves with the agreement.

“NAFAU is glad to have had signed a recognition agreement and procedural agreement with August 26 Manufacturing, it is indeed a milestone in the history of our organisation, as it keeps growing every day,” Tawana said.

He further stated that the union is looking forward to building harmonious labour relations with August 26 Manufacturing and will strive to improve the living conditions of its members, through wages and conditions of employment.

Additionally, Tawana called on the government to relax the COVID-19 measures from the current 22h00 curfew time to 00h00 stating that the tourism and hospitality industry is bleeding to the core and that most workers have lost their jobs.

“We need to balance health against the economy,” he said.

On her part, August 26 Manufacturing Managing Director, Ndapewa Hangula welcomed the opportunity to formalise the agreement with NAFAU, stating that it will ensure that workers are well taken care of and represented.

“As a company and management we appreciate our biggest asset which is our employees and we are in agreement and appreciate this opportunity because we value our workers, we value their voices and we value them as contributors to the growth of this company. We hope that it is the start of a good relationship that is going to be well maintained and take us forward both as a company and as people who represent the company,” Hangula said.
