Baby Dies in Electricity Shock Drama At Okahandja

A NINE-MONTH-OLD baby girl died on Tuesday when her mother allegedly fell on her after suffering an electric shock at Okahandja.

The deceased has been identified as Lydia Kavaikua Sion, and her mother as Hendrina Nambala.

Otjozondjupa regional police commander, Commissioner Joseph Anghuwo, told Nampa yesterday that Nambala was allegedly tampering with live electrical wires inside her shack at the Saamstaan informal settlement in Okahandja when she was shocked by the current.

The baby was strapped to her back at the time.

“The shock from the electricity jolted Nambala, who fell on her back and smashed her baby girl against the ground.

The baby died on the spot,” explained Anghuwo.

Nambala was also injured and admitted to the Okahandja State Hospital.

An inquest docket was opened at the Okahandja police station.

Investigations continue. – Nampa
