Bishop calls on Namibians to put national flag before flags of their respective political organizations

OHALUSHU: The presiding Bishop of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Namibia (ELCIN), Dr Shekutaamba Nambala has called on Namibians to put the national flag before the flags of their respective political organisations.

Nambala made the call whilst speaking at the burial of the former councillor of the Endola Constituency, Ruth Kepawa Nhinda, at Ohalushu village in the Ohangwena Region on Saturday.

He noted that people unite under the national flag, irrespective of their political differences or affiliation.

Nambala expressed dissatisfaction that the flag of the Swapo-Party, the political organisation to which Nhinda belonged, was placed on top of her casket, covering the national flag.

He said the flag of the party cannot override the national flag.

The ELCIN Bishop also told the mourners that if flags of political parties are to be used in church during the funeral of a member, they have to be treated equally and in a manner which demonstrates tolerance amongst the members of different parties.

Nambala said political parties’ members are all God’s people, therefore tolerance towards one another is needed.

Nhinda died in a Windhoek private hospital on 10 August after a short illness.
