The Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Kavango East Region on Monday found the body of a five-year-old boy who drowned at Diyogha Village on last week Sunday.

NamPol Crime Investigations Coordinator in the region, Deputy Commissioner Bonifatius Kanyetu, told Nampa on Wednesday that the deceased went to the river with elders and other kids to bath and wash clothes.

While the elders were allegedly busy washing clothes, the kids were busy swimming and playing.

The elders allegedly only realised after they washed clothes that one of the kids was missing.

They began searching for the deceased but could not find him.

They allegedly then reported him missing at the Divundu Police Station at around 20h00 on Sunday.

His body was however discovered the following day on Monday at around 06h00.

The body of the deceased was removed from the river and taken to Andara District Hospital mortuary. He has been identified as Dinyando Denis Kakunyi and his next of kin have been informed of his death.

Police investigations into the matter continue.

In an unrelated incident, a 38-year-old man allegedly committed suicide at Mutjiku Village on Monday.

It is alleged that the deceased hanged himself with a rope inside his hut.

No suicide note was left and the motive behind his death is not known.

His body was also taken to the Andara District Hospital mortuary.

His next of kin have been informed and police investigation into the matter continue.
