The Capricorn Foundation has committed N.dollars 300 000 to the Amos Meerkat Syllabus (AMS) Project, which will be used to prepare the 2023 AMS materials and train new teachers this December.

The AMS Project aims to provide an appropriate Christian curriculum and teaching aids to informal preschools on farms and in the remote areas of Namibia, with the primary goal of preparing children aged five and six for school.

Capricorn Foundation’s Executive Officer, Marlize Horn, said on Friday that the foundation understands the great need for Early Childhood Development (ECD) investment as outlined by the government in the Harambee Prosperity Plan II under the social progression pillar.

“A child who has received quality ECD can do better in school and develop their emotional, social, and intellectual skills. This is what we mean by investing in our future generations,” Horn said.

She stated that investing in ECD goes a long way and has a long-term impact on Namibia’s future, and that the Capricorn Foundation as ‘a connector of positive change,’ remains committed to investing in ECD under its key primary focus area of education and economic advancement.

“Many preschool children require the opportunity to attend a preschool facility in order to be school ready and on par with other Grade 1 learners,” she added.

Since its inception in 2012, AMS has addressed this specific need, reaching 5 000 preschool children annually across the country, from Lüderitz in the far south to Katima Mulilo in the far north of Namibia.
