Capricorn Group through its Capricorn Foundation, has donated N.dollars 1 050 000 to the Ministry of Health and Social Services, which will cover the cost of three 21-tonne oxygen trucks to complement the government’s efforts in fighting COVID-19.

The group in collaboration with the Namibia Chamber of Commerce and Industry and other private sector companies formed a “business Namibia Covid-19 response” coalition as an immediate response to strengthen Namibia’s fight against the pandemic.

A media statement by Capricorn on Friday said this coalition is working together to secure oxygen supply, construct temporary medical facilities and supply medical equipment during the current spike in the pandemic.

The coalition’s first priority was to secure emergency medical oxygen from South Africa in close collaboration with the health and finance ministries and local suppliers of oxygen, the statement reads.

In the statement, Group Chief Executive Officer Thinus Prinsloo said the first of the trucks is expected to arrive in Windhoek next week. The oxygen will be used to refill the tank at the Katutura State Hospital as well as support other state hospitals around the country with oxygen tanks.

“In addition, the group has also offered assistance to the coalition in terms of logistical and administrative support,” Prinsloo said.

He noted that the bank is grateful to be in a position to contribute to this effort, which once again proves the power in collaborations and working together towards a common goal to create meaning full change and make a deep and lasting impact.

“There has never been a more poignant time for us to show what it means to be connectors of positive change,” Prinsloo stated.
