Chinese ambassador donates school bags

Chinese Ambassador to Namibia, Zhang Yiming on Tuesday and Wednesday handed over donation of school bags, called Panda Packs, to various schools in northern Namibia.

The schools that received Panada packs are Shinime Shiivula Primary School (873), Okahao Primary School (712), Ontoko Combined School (704) Omalago Primary School (237) and Vision Private Primary School (384).

The Chinese diplomat also donated 10 computers to the Saara Kuugongelwa-Amadhila Resource and Vocational School at Outapi in the Omusati Region and issued N.dollars 20 000 scholarships, each to schools such as John Pandeni Combined School, Onawa Secondary School, Power Station Christian Academy, Oshekasheka Combined School and Oikango Combined School.

Speaking during the handover, Yiming said the donation is made possible by ordinary Chinese people who contributed money through the Panda Project and the Chinese Ambassador Scholarship Phase 2.

According to him, the Panda Project of Namibia was launched in 2018 and it aimed at supporting quality basic education in the country.

Yiming pointed out that 46 000 panda packs are thus far donated to 124 schools in 10 Namibian regions, while a total of 110 000 panda packs have been donated in African countries such as Ethiopia, Uganda, Sudan, Zambia and then Namibia.

Investing in education is an investment to the future and contribution to improve the education in Namibia, he noted, adding that China has no hidden agenda in coming to Namibia, but the Asian nation is just offering friendly support to its Namibian friends.

Omusati regional governor Erginus Endjala, whilst also speaking during the donation handover event held at Outapi on Wednesday, said the panda packs and bursaries are given to the best-performing vulnerable children in the rural society of Namibia.

Chinese business personalities from Oshakati and Oshikango accompanied Yiming during the donation handover.
