Chinese Government hands over refurbished National Assembly conference hall

The National Assembly on Thursday received a bus and a refurbished C1 Conference Hall here in Windhoek.

Both donations were made by the Chinese government.

Speaking at the occasion, Speaker of the National Assembly said the refurbished C1 Conference Hall of the National Assembly and the Parliament bus came about as a result of discussions between him and the leaders of the Parliament of China, known as the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China.

As some of you might know, the friendship between the people of Namibia and the people of China dates many years back. In my view, this donation has continued to demonstrate the strong bond of friendship between our two Parliamentary institutions and overall, between our two countries, said Katjavivi.

Katjavivi expressed gratitude appreciation on behalf of the Namibian government to Li Zhanshu the Chairman of the National People's Congress of the People's Republic of China, Chinese Ambassador Zhang Yiming, and the Government of China for their support and cooperation in the realisation of the donations.

The speaker also thanked the Chinese technical team which was mandated to ensure that the job is completed and the Ministry of Works and Transport for working closely with the staff of the National Assembly, to bring the project to fruition.

According to National Assembly Public Relations Officer David Nahongandja, the Conference Hall will be used for parliament activities including a new conference system such as translation cubicles, presentation equipment amongst others.

Nahongandja added the main objective of the Parliament Bus is to strengthen parliamentary programs of Taking Parliament to the People, in line with its Agenda for Change by transporting parliamentarians when conducting outreach programs especially in the rural areas saying it has an online system.
