Geneva: Chinese independent watch brand Fam al Hut on Thursday clinched the Audacity Prize at the 25th Grand Prix d’Horlogerie de Geneve (GPHG), an event often referred to as the “Oscars of the watch industry.” The renowned prize was awarded to the brand for its innovative creation, “the Mobius.” Dai Xinyan, the 25-year-old mastermind behind Fam al Hut, expressed his excitement following the win.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Dai emphasized that China’s watch industry has transitioned beyond merely establishing well-known brands and is now entering a phase that showcases its capabilities. He noted that the industry is brimming with potential due to increased original innovation and heightened brand awareness.
GPHG President Raymond Loretan highlighted China’s role in reshaping global competition, noting that Chinese brands are rapidly emerging as formidable competitors against international watchmakers, including those from Switzerland. Their expanding global presence is opening new avenues for recognition.
Zhu Shunhua, president of the Shenzhen Watch and Clock Association, pointed out China’s continuous progress in high-end intelligent manufacturing. He remarked that by exhibiting their creations alongside leading Swiss, German, and Japanese watchmakers, Chinese brands are enhancing their global visibility and will persist in delivering “good Chinese design” and “good Chinese manufacturing” to consumers worldwide.
This accolade marks the second occasion a Chinese brand has secured a GPHG award. In 2021, China’s CIGA Design was honored with the Challenge Watch Prize for its original piece, “the Blue Planet.”
