A 31-year-old Chinese national appeared in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday, for allegedly bribing an official in the Ministry of Home Affairs in an attempt to have her work permit renewed.

A media statement availed by the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Thursday said Ping Zou whose permit expired on 28 February this year, was arrested in Windhoek on Tuesday after she allegedly offered the official two solar street lights with their stands and an outdoor set of six chairs and a table.

The items are valued at N.dollars 7 900.

Her case was postponed to 30 March 2021 for an official bail application and she is remanded in custody.

“A person convicted of an offence under any provision of this chapter is liable to a fine not exceeding N.dollars 500 000 or to imprisonment for a term not exceeding 25 years or to both such fine and such imprisonment,” the ACC statement reads.
