City of Windhoek has rubbished reports that Windhoek Mayor, has been booted out of his mayoral post

The City of Windhoek (CoW) has rubbished reports that Windhoek Mayor, Muesee Kazapua, has been booted out of his mayoral post and replaced by fellow Swapo councillor, Fransina Kahungu.

CoW, instead, branded any report suggesting that Kazapua has been ousted in the position he has served since 2014 as fake news.

A report in a local daily newspaper yesterday purported that Kazapua had been booted out of his mayoral position and replaced with Kahungu.

There is no new mayor, there is nothing like that and Kazapua is still the mayor; that is fake news, the City's spokesperson Harold Akwenye told Nampa upon enquiry yesterday.

Akwenye's sentiments were echoed by Kazapua, who indicated that the status quo in terms of political leadership at CoW remains unchanged.

However, the current chairperson of CoW's management committee, Agatha Ashilelo, confirmed to this agency that indeed the Swapo Regional Executive Committee (REC) convened over the weekend and resolved to replace Kazapua as mayor with Kahungu, who joined CoW in November 2010.

Ashilelo said there are talks that the swearing-in of Kahungu as mayor and Ian Subasubani as deputy will take place tomorrow.
