National Petroleum Corporation of Namibia (Namcor) board chairperson, Jennifer Comalie, was late Tuesday afternoon granted bail of N.dollars 7 000 by magistrate Jozanne Klazen in the Windhoek Magistrate’s Court.

Comalie’s court appearance came after she was arrested on Monday when cannabis, crack cocaine and cocaine were allegedly discovered in her vehicle shortly before a Namcor board meeting was due to take place. She was charged with three counts of dealing in drugs approximately valued at N.dollars 57 000 and was represented in court by lawyer Trevor Brockerhoff.

Prosecutor Seredine Jacobs said the State “at this point” does not object to bail and requested that the matter be postponed to 01 August 2023 for further police investigations.

Klazen ruled that the matter be postponed to 31 July 2023 for investigations.

Separately, a letter written by Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Iipumbu Shiimi on Tuesday, requested Namibian Police Force Inspector General Joseph Shikongo to conduct a security threat assessment and provide the necessary security support to Comalie should a treat be confirmed.

The validity of the letter was confirmed to Nampa by police spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi on Tuesday.

The letter detailed an urgent request meeting by Comalie whereby she informed Shimii and Mines and Energy Minister Tom Alweendo about “how people are not happy with what she is doing at Namcor” and would take unspecified action against her.

“Comalie said the news initially did not bother her, but she was starting to worry about her safety,” Shiimi stated in the letter.

He said Alweendo and himself advised Comalie to closely monitor the situation and inform them should she observe strange activities with a view to notify the police.
