A 31-year-old Congolese national was arrested with 27 000 grams of cannabis valued at N.dollars 1 350 000 at Swakopmund on Tuesday.

The Namibian Police Force in a report late Tuesday said the suspect was arrested at a complex opposite Shell Service Station in Nelson Mandela Street.

“The suspect has a pending drug case whereby he was arrested in Mondesa in 2019 with one gram of cocaine powder valued at N.dollars 500 and the said case is remanded to 12 July 2021,” the report states.

The suspect’s first appearance for the new case will be 10 June 2021.

Meanwhile, police at Henties Bay are investigating a case of murder, housebreaking, intent to rob with aggravating circumstances and malicious damage to property after an 83-year-old man reportedly succumbed to injuries sustained during an alleged robbery on Monday.

According to the police report, Carel Thomas was found lying unconscious in the living room at his home and is suspected to have been assaulted with a rake and spanner in the head and all over the body by unknown suspects.

“The victim was last seen on Sunday when he visited a friend who was trying to call him on Monday, but could not get hold of him as his cellphone was off. The friend sent someone to go check on him and that is the person who discovered the scene and reported the matter to the police. It is suspected that the culprits came to his house while he was not around and broke most of the windows and a door but couldn’t enter the house because of burglar bars. When the victim arrived at home, probably Sunday, they attacked him and stole his properties,” the report reads.

Police investigations continue in both matters.
