A member of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) was arrested at Keetmanshoop after he allegedly stabbed and killed his ex-girlfriend in the early hours of Saturday.

NamPol ||Kharas Crime Investigations Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Chrispin Mubebo told Nampa on Saturday that the incident occurred around 02h30 in the Tseiblaagte residential area.

“It is alleged that the suspect stabbed Louw multiple times on her upper body with a knife, while in the company of her boyfriend. The boyfriend was also stabbed several times but survived the attack,” said Mubebo.

The deceased has been identified as 38-year-old, Yvette Louw and her next of kin have been informed.

The boyfriend of the victim, according to Mubebo, was taken to the local hospital for treatment, and was later released. He is in a stable condition.

The suspect faces charges of murder read with domestic violence, assault, and contempt of court by violation of a protection order. He is expected to appear in the Keetmanshoop Magistrate’s Court on Monday.

Meanwhile, a 30-year-old woman is expected to appear in the Lüderitz Magistrate’s Court on Monday on charges of murder, concealment of birth, and defeating and obstructing the course of justice after she allegedly gave birth to a baby in the mountains and left it there.

According to Mubebo, it is alleged that the woman went to the hospital on 14 June, where it was discovered by a medical doctor that she was pregnant.

“While at the hospital it was discovered that she was pregnant and she admitted to the doctor that she had delivered a baby in the mountains and left the baby there,” said Mubebo.

Police investigations in both matters continue.
