Coup in Egypt a setback for democracy

After experiencing irritation and growing discontent in the form of protest in 2003, the French Prime Minister, Jean-Pierre Raffarin said: “La rue doits’ exprimer, maiscen’est pas la rue qui gouverne” (those who protest on the streets should express themselves, but it is not protesters who govern). In advanced democracies, policy dissatisfaction that leads to street protests or internal discontent within majorities can result in early elections. However, such elections occur within the framework of rule of law and the constitution.
