Kandjimi Murangi Secondary School in the Kavango West Region has been temporarily closed after 15 learners tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday.
The learners were swabbed last Thursday after displaying COVID-19 symptoms.
Kavango West Education Director, Teopolina Hamutumua, told Nampa on Tuesday the school has been closed since Monday to prevent further transmission of the virus.
She said those who tested positive have been isolated while those who are still waiting for their results have also been put into a different section of the school hostel.
Hamutumua said no learners will be allowed to go to school until the ministry guides the directorate.
“We are going to have a meeting with officials from the Ministry of Health and Social Services, including all the principals and hostel superintendents, to put in place strategies for how we should move forward,” said the director.
The results of the meeting will determine the duration of the closure of the school, she added.
Meanwhile, the senior medical officer at Nankudu District Hospital in Kavango West, Dr Glennson Haihambo, said among the 15 learners who tested positive, one is in a moderate condition and was put in an isolation facility while the rest of the learners are in isolation at the school hostel.
