COVID-19: Kunene plans to vaccinate over 18 500 in September

The Kunene regional health directorate has announced its target to fully vaccinate 18 593 people by September.

This according to Kunene Senior Health Programme Officer, Jason Ndahapele , who old Nampa recently that the regional health directorate, in conjunction with various stakeholders, commenced with the regional COVID-19 vaccination program, which includes, educational initiatives, door-to-door inoculation campaigns, community sensitization and mobilisation programmes, among others.

He said that they target to have at least 27 893 people fully vaccinated with both doses of the vaccine by the end of September, which translate to 32 per cent of the region’s population. The region has thus far vaccinated more than 9 300 people since April 2021.

“With our regional set target, I must say that the region is making some progress. We have started working over weekends in rolling out the vaccines, with our vaccination points now based at the Opuwo Police Station, Outjo and Khorixas. In addition to that, we also have mobile teams who are in the field reaching hard-to-reach areas,” he said.

He also stated that all these initiatives are a crucial part of the region’s strategy to curb the pandemic, adding that community’s health assistants have been instrumental in providing and promoting health issues and that has pushed more people to get the jab.
