COVID-19: Namibia records 20 new cases, two deaths

Health and Social Services Minister, Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that Namibia on Tuesday recorded 20 new COVID-19 cases and two deaths.

In an update on Wednesday, Shangula said one of the deaths recorded was from Windhoek, while the other one was recorded in the Eenhana district.

The new COVID-19 cases were identified from 1 377 results received from laboratories and represented a 1.5 per cent positivity ratio. The cases had a gender distribution of seven females and 13 males, with the youngest being 10 years old and the oldest, 74 years.

Erongo and Kavango East recorded the highest number of cases at five each, followed by ||Karas with three, Khomas and Zambezi at two, while the Ohangwena, Omusati and Oshana regions recorded one case each.

Shangula noted that of these cases, one had received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine, while another had been fully vaccinated. Three of the confirmed cases are learners and one a student.

The country also recorded 156 new recoveries, bringing the total number of recoveries to 123 736.

Namibia on Tuesday had 910 active cases, 54 of whom were hospitalised, with six in intensive care units.

As of Monday, a cumulative 288 695 people had received their first dose of the vaccine, of which 26 905 had received the Johnson and Johnson vaccine which is only administered once, while 186 390 had received their second doses.
