COVID-19: Namibia records 21 new cases, two deaths

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula announced that Namibia on Saturday recorded 21 new COVID-19 cases, and two deaths, taking the country’s death toll to 3 554.

In an update issued on Sunday, Shangula said the new cases are part of 1 463 samples tested, representing a 1.4 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of 11 females and 10 males between the ages of two and 74 years.

The Ohangwena Region recorded the highest cases at eight, followed by Omusati with six new cases while Erongo, ||Kharas and Hardap recorded two cases each and Kavango East recorded one case.

Among the confirmed cases are seven learners from different schools and two teachers.

One new case had received one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine while two cases were fully vaccinated.

Namibia on Saturday had 776 active cases, of which 19 were hospitalised and one person admitted in intensive care.

Twelve new recoveries were also announced, bringing total recoveries in the country to 124 577.

A cumulative number of 330 155 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Saturday, of which 55 096 had received one-dose of the Janssen & Johnson vaccine, while 207 967 had received two doses. Thus a total of 263 063 people have completed vaccination.
