COVID-19: Namibia records 27 new cases and five deaths

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, has announced that Namibia on Wednesday recorded 27 new Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and five deaths, bringing the total deaths to 3 534.

Shangula, in the daily COVID-19 update on Thursday, said the new cases were part of 2 111 samples tested, representing a 1.3 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of 14 females and 13 males between the ages of 11 months and 105 years.

The Oshana Region recorded the highest number of cases at eight, followed by Ohangwena with seven, ||Kharas six, Khomas four and Kavango East, two cases.

Of the confirmed cases, eight are learners and three healthcare workers. Only two of the new cases have received two doses of the COVID-19 vaccine, while the rest are not vaccinated.

Namibia on Wednesday had 870 active cases, of which 55 were hospitalised and five in intensive care units.

A further 62 recoveries were also announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 123 798.

A cumulative 290 624 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Wednesday, while 187 882 had been fully vaccinated.
