COVID-19: Namibia records 408 new cases, six deaths

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, on Monday announced that Namibia recorded 408 new COVID-19 cases, bringing the total number of confirmed cases to 55 549.

The cases had a gender distribution of 177 males and 231 females between the ages of one month and 94 years.

Shangula in the daily COVID-19 update said the country also recorded six COVID-19 related deaths from the districts of Windhoek, Gobabis, Oshakati, Keetmanshoop and Eenhana, bringing the total number of deaths to 830. The deceased were aged between 35 and 83 years, with five reportedly having had comorbidities.

Of the cases announced on Monday, Khomas recorded the highest number at 235 followed by Hardap with 49 and Erongo with 24 cases. Otjozondjupa recorded 23 cases while Omaheke recorded 22 cases. //Kharas and Kavango East recorded 12 cases each, while Oshikoto recorded 10 and Kunene eight. The Oshana Region recorded six cases and Zambezi five, while Ohangwena and Kavango West recorded one case each.

Among the cases recorded on Monday are 21 learners, six teachers from different schools, 16 students and eight health care workers.

A total of 232 new recoveries were also recorded, bringing the total recoveries to 50 675.

Active cases on Monday stood at 4 033 with 272 hospitalised cases of which 48 were in intensive care units.

Cumulatively, 67 864 COVID-19 vaccine first doses and 9 085 COVID-19 vaccine second doses were administered by Monday.
