COVID-19: Namibia records 43 new cases, three deaths

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that Namibia on Wednesday recorded 43 new COVID-19 cases and three new deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 3 511.

Shangula, in the daily COVID-19 update on Thursday, said the new cases represent a 2.3 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of 24 females and 19 males between the ages of two days and 89 years.

Oshikoto Region recorded the highest number of cases at 12, followed by Khomas with eight cases, ||Kharas five, Ohangwena and Oshana four each, Hardap three, Omusati two, Kunene two, and the Erongo, Omaheke and Otjozondjupa regions with one case each.

Of the confirmed cases, 11 were learners from different schools, one a teacher, one a student and one a healthcare worker.

Namibia on Wednesday had 1 100 active cases, of which 92 were hospitalised and 12 in intensive care.

A further 105 new recoveries were announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 122 966.

A cumulative 266 653 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Wednesday, while 171 251 had been fully vaccinated.
