COVID-19: Namibia records 53 new cases, 14 deaths

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula has announced that Namibia on Tuesday recorded 53 new COVID-19 cases and 14 new deaths bringing the total number of deaths to 3 508.

Shangula, in the daily COVID-19 update on Wednesday, said the new cases represented a 4.5 per cent positivity ratio, with a gender distribution of 29 females and 24 males, between the ages of four months and 86 years.

Hardap Region recorded the highest number of cases at 14, followed by Ohangwena with 13 cases, Khomas eight, Oshana six, ||Kharas five, Zambezi four, Omusati two and Kunene recorded one case.

Of the confirmed cases, 22 are learners of which 13 are from two schools in Engela district and the rest are from different schools, while one teacher is also among the confirmed cases. Two cases received one dose of the COVID-19 and the rest are not vaccinated.

Namibia on Tuesday had 1 165 active cases, of which 92 were hospitalised and 18 in intensive care.

A further 73 new recoveries were announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 122 861.

A cumulative 264 143 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Tuesday, while 169 614 had been fully vaccinated.
