COVID-19: Namibia records 89 new cases, two deaths

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, has announced that Namibia on Sunday recorded 89 new Coronavirus (COVID-19) cases and two deaths, bringing the total number of deaths to 3 471.

Shangula, in the daily COVID-19 update on Monday, said the newly confirmed cases are from 1 326 tested samples, representing a 6.7 per cent positivity ratio.

The gender distribution was 53 females and 36 males, ranging between one and 113 years old.

The Ohangwena Region recorded the highest number of cases at 33, followed by Omaheke with 12 cases, Oshana seven, Oshikoto seven, Omusati five, Khomas five, Kunene five, Erongo five, Hardap four, Otjozondjupa four, while ||Kharas recorded two new cases.

Of the confirmed cases, 50 are learners, 25 of which are from Shidute Combined School in Enhana and 12 from Otjiuaneho Primary School in Gobabis district and the rest are from different schools. While three teachers and one healthcare worker are among the positive cases, and none of the confirmed cases is vaccinated.

Namibia on Sunday had 1 328 active cases, of which 104 were hospitalised and 19 are in intensive care units.

Furthermore, eight new recoveries were announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 122 089.

A cumulative number of 243 807 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Sunday, while 155 427 had been fully vaccinated.
