COVID-19: Namibia records five new cases and one death

Minister of Health and Social Services, Dr Kalumbi Shangula, has announced that Namibia on Wednesday recorded five new COVID-19 cases and one death, bringing the total number of deaths in the country to 3 567.

In an update issued Thursday, Shangula said the new cases formed part of 1 552 tested samples and represented a 0.3 per cent positivity ratio. The new cases were aged between 22 and 54.

The Erongo and Otjozondjupa regions recorded two cases each, while Kavango East recorded one case. None of the cases were vaccinated.

Namibia on Wednesday had 90 active cases of which nine were hospitalised, with three people admitted to intensive care units.

A total of 24 recoveries were also announced, bringing the total number of recoveries in the country to 125 405.

A cumulative 350 082 people had received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine by Wednesday, of which 68 001 had received the single dose Janssen & Johnson vaccine, while 220 483 people had received two doses.
