The Ngatuuane Farmers Union (NFU) through the Namibia National Farmers Union (NNFU) on Tuesday donated 10 nebulisers to the Kunene health directorate to support the region’s fight against COVID-19.

The nebulisers form part of more than 30 other machines meant to benefit the Kunene, Omusati and Oshana regions. The machines were acquired by NNFU through various farmers unions in the northern regions to the tune of more than N.dollars 60 000. Nebulisers are often used to deliver life-saving medication to patients.

Speaking at the handover ceremony in Opuwo, the president of the NFU and NNFU treasurer, Amon Kapi, said the donation came at a time when all stakeholders should come together to fight COVID-19, adding that by sharing and donating they meet the government halfway.

Kapi also urged other stakeholders to come on board and said Namibians can only curb the spread of the virus through unity.

Commending the farmers union, Kunene regional health director Thomas Shapumba said the live-saving instruments will be very useful in saving COVID-19 patients’ lives. He further commended the farmers’ union for seeing the need to assist in the fight against COVID-19 despite battling the devastating drought farmers are battling in the Kunene Region.

“Thank you very much for helping the needy and vulnerable,” he said.

Shapumba also stated that the fight against the pandemic should be a collective one and said those who feel the need to donate in any way can do so through the various regional offices.
