The City of Windhoek has announced that it will start replacing private locks with locks owned by the municipality at the meter rooms of business complexes and residential flats to allow for easier access.

The CoW in a public notice on Tuesday said its officials have been experiencing difficulty in accessing electricity meter rooms as the keys of the locks used especially by body corporates and managing agents are not available to them, hindering service delivery.

“Most of these meter rooms are located inside complexes and in most cases are locked with private locks belonging to body corporates and managing agents. It must be noted in terms of the City of Windhoek Electricity Supply Regulation Electricity Act 4 of 2007, that the City of Windhoek shall have 24-hour uninterrupted access to all metering points for the purpose of operation and maintenance,” said the notice.

The City of Windhoek called on body corporate and managing agents to cooperate and grant access to its teams during the replacement of locks as well as discussing measures to allow 24-hour access to meter rooms.

It said members of the teams will carry City of Windhoek identification cards and will be clothed in blue shirts with City of Windhoek logos and blue pants.
