Deceased charcoal worker identified

The 43-year-old man who died instantly on Friday afternoon after he was allegedly run over by a moving tractor he was travelling in on Farm Okavikenga situated some 30 kilometres west of the Osire Refugee Settlement Farm, has been identified.

Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha told Nampa in an interview that the man was on Tuesday identified by his cousin as Leonard Muthoko.

Mbeha said Muthoko originates from Omuthiya in the Oshikoto Region and has been a charcoal worker for several years at Farm Okavikenga

The police officer earlier told this news agency on Sunday that Muthoko was a passenger in the tractor when he allegedly fell from it while it was towing a trailer, which ran over him.

The trailer, Mbeha added, was loaded with charcoal.

Muthoko died on the spot, she said.

The police at Osire are now investigating a culpable homicide case in connection with the matter.
