Despite good rains in northern, central-northern, north-eastern parts of country some dams still empty

WINDHOEK: Despite good rains received in the northern, central-northern, and north-eastern parts of the country over the past few days, some dams are still empty.

The Namibia Water Corporation (Namwater) in its weekly dam bulletin issued on Wednesday noted that the Omaruru Delta in the Erongo Region and the Omatjene Dam in the Otjozondjupa Region are still empty.

The dam levels have remained unchanged since the beginning of the year, when some parts in these regions received good rain.

On a more positive note, the Goreangab Dam in Windhoek and Otjivero Silt Dam in the Omaheke Region are 100 per cent full to capacity.

The Daan Viljoen Dam, also at Windhoek, is 99,5 per cent full; while the Tilda Viljoen Dam in the Omaheke Region is 94,2 per cent full and Friedenau Dam (Khomas Region) is 60,6 per cent full.

The Ojivero main dam in Omaheke is 71,5 per cent full; followed by the Swakoppoort Dam in the Otjozondjupa Region which is 56,6 per cent full, while the Naute dam (Karas) is 55,7 per cent full.
