Divundu: Mobile Telecommunications Limited (MTC) on Monday officially opened its first-ever MTC Mobile Home in Divundu, bringing the total number of outlets countrywide to 39.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the new shop was inaugurated by Minister of Information and Communication Technology, Emma Theofelus, who said access to affordable digital services is essential for inclusivity and national development. She further commended MTC for investing in underserved areas and urged the company to continue expanding ICT access across Namibia.

‘This year, the telco giant MTC has opened at least five new mobile homes, with Omuthiya and Divundu getting their first ever [outlet], saving residents from having to travel many kilometres to Ondangwa or Rundu in search of MTC services,’ Theofelus said in a press statement released by MICT.

MTC General Manager for Product Solutions, Andreas Gustav, at the opening, emphasised that the opening of five new MTC mobile homes this year demonstrates MTC’s commitment to ensuring equal access to digital services. He noted that the expansion supports socio-economic development. ‘This shop signifies our trust in Divundu and our long-term commitment to the people of the Kavango East Region. It positions Divundu as a key hub benefiting from tourism and cross-border connectivity. As this town grows, connecting Namibia to neighbouring countries and benefitting from a booming tourism market, we want MTC to be right there as the driver and enabler of an exclusive economy,’ he was quoted as saying in the statement.

Kavango East Governor, Julius Hambyuka welcomed the development, noting that the new outlet symbolises digital inclusion and will benefit entrepreneurs, students, and youth by improving access to technology and opportunities. ‘This new MTC Mobile Home is a symbol of inclusion. It means that the people of Divundu and the surrounding communities are not left behind in the digital revolution. It means that our local entrepreneurs can register SIM cards, pay bills, and access mobile money services without the burden of travel costs. It also means that students and the youth can stay connected to education, to opportunity, and to the world beyond our borders,’ he said.
