Nearly 800 workers of the Dundee Precious Metals (DPM) smelter at Tsumeb in the Oshikoto Region on Wednesday received a three per cent salary increment effective 01 July 2021.

In a media statement issued Wednesday, DPM said the salary negotiations had been ongoing for a period of six months, in which the workers were represented by the Mineworkers’ Union of Namibian (MUN).

“The negotiations were finalised as a two-year agreement starting from 01 July 2021 with a three per cent increase, and another four per cent taking effect on 01 March 2022,” said DPM.

DPM’s Managing Director in Namibia, Zebra Kasete, who signed the agreement on behalf of the company, expressed appreciation for the manner in which the two parties negotiated to reach an accord.

“The current situation in the world and in the country due to COVID-19 was taken into consideration during the negotiation processes as the agreement comes at a time when the economy is under siege from the pandemic,” he said.

Kasete, however, encouraged workers to remain focused on productivity and to be cautious at all times about their safety at work.

MUN Branch Executive Chairperson at Tsumeb, Christian Ntjamba, on behalf of the workers, thanked DPM and its entire management for the agreement.
