Namibia’s senior cricket team, The Eagles, will face Hong Kong in three 50 over matches at the United Fields, in Windhoek from 05 to 12 June.

According to a media release availed to Nampa on Tuesday, this will be the fourth competitive competition to be hosted by Namibia in 2022.

The matches come after Namibia returned from a successful tour to Zimbabwe where they beat the host 3-2 in the best of five Twenty-Twenty (T-20) matches at Queens Sports Club in Bulawayo.

Namibia is currently ranked 17th in the world after playing only 11 games in the one-day internationals (50 over matches).

In the statement head coach, Pierre de Bruyn welcomed the tournament saying it comes at a good time when the team can focus on preparations for the upcoming ODI series in Scotland.

“The three matches will allow for valuable game time and give opportunities for fringe players to compete on-field with the guidance of experienced Eagles,” De Bruyn said.

Meanwhile, Cricket Namibia Chief Executive Officer Johan Muller, said the matches against Hong Kong will provide an opportunity for Namibia to test their strength against quality opposition.

“It is part of our strategic vision to attract high-quality opposition to Namibia. This will be one of eight international tournaments hosted this year on home soil,” he said.

Hong Kong is expected to arrive in Namibia on Thursday, with their first training session scheduled for Friday before the first match on Sunday.
