Otjiwarongo: The Electoral Commission of Namibia has expressed satisfaction with the number of voter cards issued to applicants in the rural areas of the Otjozondjupa Region during its 10-day supplementary voter registration process.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the registrations started on 04 August 2025 and were scheduled to end at 19h00 on Tuesday. Otjozondjupa Regional Electoral Officer, Victoria Amutenya, in an interview, stated that the Omatako Constituency captured the highest number of 1,189 new eligible voters. Okakarara followed with 1,012 newly registered voters, trailed by Tsumkwe Constituency with 808, Okahandja with 789, Otjiwarongo with 725, Grootfontein with 654, and Otavi Constituency with 449 newly registered voters, bringing the total to 5,626 eligible new voters captured on the ECN system by Tuesday afternoon.

The supplementary registration is aimed at issuing new voter cards to eligible first-time voters and replacing lost voter cards to enable participation in the regional council and local authority elections in November this year. “I am really happy with the registrations in the rural areas. Most of the people we have registered since the beginning of the registrations on 04 August are new applicants, followed by those that changed addresses and very few for reprinting duplicates of voter cards,” said Amutenya.

All 52 teams in the region are prepared to attend to all applicants who are still queuing by 19h00 on Tuesday, she added. “However, people should not wait until the last minute,” she said. The total number of newly registered eligible voters in the Otjozondjupa Region will be announced on Wednesday.
