Otjiwarongo: The Electoral Commission of Namibia (ECN) initiated an 11-day workshop on Monday in Otjiwarongo, Otjozondjupa Region, aimed at preparing officials for the Regional Councils and Local Authorities elections scheduled for 26 November. The event gathered 208 participants, including regional electoral officers, returning officers, election officials, and logistics and technology specialists from all 14 regions.

According to Namibia Press Agency, ECN Commissioner Gerson Tjihenuna emphasized the importance of full participation in the training. He urged the attendees to actively engage, ask questions, and utilize the materials provided to enhance their knowledge and skills. The workshop’s primary focus is on the nomination of candidates for the upcoming elections, general election procedures, and result management.

Tjihenuna highlighted the importance of teamwork, hard work, and dedication, encouraging the officials to demonstrate the same resilience as exhibited during the 2024 Presidential and National Assembly elections. He stressed that the success of elections relies on the collective diligence and professionalism of the officials who manage and supervise the electoral processes under the Electoral Act No. 5 of 2014.

“As returning officers, regional electoral officers, and other election officials, you must conduct your work in a non-partisan and transparent manner and within the confines of the law,” Tjihenuna stated, urging participants to approach the training with enthusiasm and dedication.

The training, facilitated by ECN Director of Operations Zenia Klazen and other directors from various departments, is scheduled to conclude on 19 September 2025.
