Windhoek: The Epukiro Annual Business and Agricultural Expo is currently taking place at the Omaueuozonjanda auction kraals in the Omaheke Region. Now in its third edition, the event is organised by the Eastern Epukiro Farmers’ Association (EEFA) and aims to provide a platform for farmers and entrepreneurs to market their products effectively.
According to Namibia Press Agency, Ngurimuje Marenga, one of the event organisers, noted that businesspeople and farmers started arriving in Omaueuozonjanda as early as Monday. He expressed satisfaction with the presence of quality animals at the expo, indicating the event’s significance. Marenga mentioned that members of the business community are actively participating by marketing their products.
The agricultural show aspect of the expo features about 70 livestock and over 100 small stock. Marenga emphasized that the event is not solely about marketing but also serves as a venue for farmers, exhibitors, and businesspeople to share ideas and build connections within their industries.
Marenga highlighted the importance of youth participation in the event, noting that their involvement signifies the event’s growing impact. He stated that the youth are eager and determined to succeed in their respective productions, taking over from their parents.
As the EEFA treasurer, Marenga announced that the judging of small stock will begin on Friday, while Saturday is allocated for cattle judging. He mentioned the increasing interest in the small stock competition, which might extend the event’s duration. Marenga urged farmers and exhibitors to adhere to the schedule to ensure the smooth running of the show.
In addition to cash prizes, winners in both business and livestock categories will receive trophies and medals. The renowned Okondjatu-based Brahman bull, Lucas, is present at the expo and is expected to face stiff competition from the host constituency, known for producing Brahman cattle.
Epukiro farmers have been performing well at recent agricultural shows in Omaheke, and Marenga anticipates they will maintain this momentum on their home ground. The expo is set to conclude on Sunday.
