The Namibian government, in partnership with European Union (EU), on Tuesday here launched an Annual Action Plan (AAP).

The APP, which is valued at N.dollars 437 million, will cater for three new development programs in Windhoek, which include foundational education; governance and gender equality; and technical cooperation facility.

This launch coincided with the EU and Namibia’s celebration of 33 years of partnership, stemming from 1990.

Speaking at the launch, National Planning Commission Director General, Obeth Kandjoze, said that Namibia is committed to invest and support Early Childhood Development (ECD) services.

“We are thankful for the long-standing EU support in this sector targeting the most vulnerable children at an early age. It is a highly cost-effective strategy to ensure that all children develop to their full potential and it is a good investment for the future of the country,” Kandjoze said.

Meanwhile, EU Commissioner for International Partnerships, Jutta Urpilainen, said through the action plan and under the Global Gateway, the EU and member states will continue to support Namibia in human development, education and good governance.

The N.dollars 437 million budget will be allocated as follows; N.dollars 291 million to foundational education; N. dollars 45.5 million for governance and gender equality; and N.dollars 100 million for technical cooperation facility

Since the beginning of the EU-Namibia partnership in 1990, the total accumulated EU development assistance to Namibia exceeds N.dollars 9.1 billion in various sectors.

The AAP will implement the actions foreseen under the Multi-Annual Indicative Program (MIP) for Namibia, covering the period 2021 to 2027.
