Ex-Oshikango Councillor Dies in Car Crash

THE police in Ohangwena have reported that the former councillor of Oshikango Constituency Nghiyavelwa Nambinga (71) of Okadiva in the Ohangwena Region died when his Toyota pickup collided with a truck near Oshikango on Friday evening.

His sister in-law, Beatha Nambinga, survived the accident but sustained serious injuries and was taken to the Engela District Hospital.

According to the serious crime coordinator for Ohangwena police, deputy Commissioner Abner Agas, a truck coming from Angola was driving on the wrong lane and collided head-on with Nambinga’s truck. The driver was alone in the truck and also sustained serious injuries.

The Late Nambinga was the first councillor for Oshikango Constituency. He was also Namibia’s first chief of Immigration and Customs and Excise officer in the North. He is survived by his wife Martha Nambinga, children and grandchildren.

His brother, Jeremiah Nambinga, told The Namibian yesterday that the late Nambinga and his sister-in-law were coming from a memorial service of a relative in Ondangwa.

Nambinga said his brother will be buried at his home at Okadiva number one on Friday 15 August 2014 while his memorial service will be held on Thursday evening 14 August at his home.
