Farmer who died in accident near Otjituuo identified

The 68-year-old farmer who died instantly after the vehicle he was travelling in overturned on the Grootfontein-Otjituuo gravel road on Friday afternoon has been identified as Salomon Tjipura.

Tjipura was a founding member of the Namibia Emerging Commercial Famers' Union (NECFU) and a renowned farmer in the Otjituuo area.

Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force in the Otjozondjupa Region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha on Sunday told Nampa in an interview that Tjipura was identified by his close relatives over the weekend.

Tjipura at the time of accident was travelling alone in a white Isuzu pickup from the direction of Grootfontein towards Otjituuo.

At approximately five kilometres to Otjituuo at about 175, it is alleged the left rear tyre of the vehicle he was driving burst, causing Tjipura to lose control over the car and it overturned several times, said Mbeha.

Tjipura died on the spot, Mbeha said.

Police investigations in the matter continue.
