Farmworker allegedly commits suicide near Osire

A 29-year-old farmworker allegedly committed suicide by hanging at Farm Ouhave near the Osire Refugee Settlement in the Otjozondjupa Region on Saturday.

Spokesperson of the Namibian Police Force (NamPol) in the region, Inspector Maureen Mbeha on Monday told Nampa in an interview that the deceased has been identified as Jona Haingura Siyave.

Siyave's next of kin have been informed of his death, said Mbeha.

Siyave's body was found inside the farm on Saturday at midday hanging from a tree with the shoelaces still tied around his neck, Mbeha said.

The body was found by a passerby and the motive behind the alleged suicide is still unknown to the police as Siyave did not leave behind a suicide note, added Mbeha.

No foul play is suspected so far by the police and an inquest docket has been opened at the Osire Police Station.
