Namibia’s First Lady, Monica Geingos, on Tuesday received her first dose of the AstraZeneca COVID-19 vaccine at the Windhoek Central Hospital.

Geingos, who recently recovered from COVID-19, said while her natural immune system remains strong and although she has antibodies against the

virus, she decided to get vaccinated not just for herself but also for those around her who cannot get vaccinated due to underlying conditions that they have.

“I recently recovered from COVID-19 but I know that I remain at the risk of re-infection. I also know that I have antibodies but I’m still susceptible and

it also not just about me but it’s about the people around me who can’t get vaccinated because they have conditions that make them susceptible to

COVID-19 and so I want to protect those around me as well,” said Geingos.

She added that she was particularly concerned about the delta variant that is re-infecting people who previously had COVID-19.
