Flame overcomes Energy in battle for lightweight title

Junior Lightweight boxer Flame ‘Special One’ Nangolo was on Friday crowned national champion after successfully outclassing his opponent Abraham ‘Energy’ Ndaendapo during AC Boxing’s Rising Stars boxing bonanza here.

The 19-year-old Nangolo who has a record of seven professional fights with seven wins added another victory to his name as he out-boxed his opponent, 39-year-old Ndaendapo who has a record of 17 fights, 10 wins and seven losses.

In their fight that was held at the NamPower Convention Centre, Nangolo landed crucial punches during the rounds that saw all the three judges scoring the fight in his favour after 10 rounds of boxing.

Judge Angel Simasiku scored the fight 100-90 in favour of Nangolo while judges Sebelum Shimwafeni and Philemon Mweya scored the fight 99-91 in favour of the young talent.

Speaking to the media after the fight an excited Nangolo said he worked hard to be where he is today.

“I have been calling on other boxers to fight me and nobody responded. But I am happy that I fought Ndaendapo whom I managed to outclass in all the rounds as the judges scored the fight 100 per cent,” said Nangolo who added that in the early rounds of the fight he used his left hand to hit his opponent harder but the referee stopped him for hitting his opponent at the back of his head.

The young boxer also echoed that winning a national title is the beginning of bigger things that await him.

Other fights on the night saw Ruaan Raspel and Shikukutu Jona exchanging leather in the lightweight division. Raspel successfully managed to beat his opponent on points.

In the welterweight category, Alfeus ‘Mosquito’ Shaanika kept his promise as he beat Hedison Nghipondoka on points.

Another welterweight boxer, Harry Simon Jr continued with his impressive winning streak after beating Steven Shimonde also on points.

Meanwhile, the only knockout of the night came in the lightweight category bout between Hafeni Ngesheya and Simeon Varde Ndayambekwa. Ngesheya won the fight on a technical knockout.
