Windhoek: Ford Motor Company sold 175,584 vehicles in the United States in October this year, marking a 1.6 percent increase compared to the same period last year, the company reported on Monday.

According to Namibia Press Agency, the U.S. automaker experienced a 3.4 percent rise in sales of internal combustion vehicles in October. However, the company faced a decline in sales of electric vehicles and hybrid vehicles, which dropped by 24.8 percent and 4.0 percent, respectively.

Throughout the first 10 months of this year, Ford sold a total of 1,834,492 vehicles in the United States, achieving a 6.6 percent increase from the previous year. Sales of the F-Series vehicles reached 688,510 units, reflecting an 11.4 percent growth.

Ford is not alone in experiencing a drop in electric vehicle sales. Other automakers such as Kia, Hyundai Motor, and Toyota Motor have also reported significant year-on-year declines in this sector, as reported by local media.

Market analysts attribute the reduction in EV sales in October to the expiration of the 7,500-dollar federal tax credit for new electric vehicles on September 30 this year, which has deterred many consumers from opting for EVs.
