Former chairperson of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) Normalisation Committee, Hilda Basson-Namundjebo has said that the death of fellow former committee member, Matti Mwandingi, was a huge loss.

Basson-Namundjebo described the late Mwandingi as a reliable, diligent, clear thinker and easy to trust individual, who will be dearly missed by the football community.

Mwandingi died on Sunday at a local hospital.

Speaking to Nampa on Monday, Basson-Namundjebo said besides Mwandingi being a sports law expert and footballer, he was always a family man who was committed to his two children and loved his family greatly.

“This is a huge loss and it is difficult to describe, he was a fit and young man who still had a long productive life ahead of him,” she said.

Basson-Namundjebo said as members of the first NC they are shocked at his passing, adding that they will be praying for his family and will be forever grateful for his contribution to football in Namibia.

Mwandingi was a lawyer and a former Tigers Football Club defender who also served on the Namibia Premier League’s disciplinary committee.

Efforts to get comment from the late Mwandingi’s family proved futile, but his former club Tigers confirmed his passing on social media.
